【What is an 契約書(Employment Contract)?】

It is a very important document (paper or PDF) that shows the conditions of your work. In Japan, the company is required to give it to you. Often it is called “雇用契約書 (employment contract)” or “労働条件通知書 (notice of working conditions)”.
