What made you apply for this job?
“At first, I honestly didn’t know exactly what construction management was.
But I had always wanted to work in the construction field, and while browsing jobs on YOLO JAPAN, I came across this role.
I was drawn to the idea of using my background in architecture and interior design, and I felt it was a job where I could grow by gaining experience on-site.
I used to think it was difficult for foreigners to work in Japan’s construction industry, but when I found a job that welcomed inexperienced applicants, I decided to take the challenge.
I had checked several other job sites, but most listings were geared toward Japanese applicants, and there were few I could actually apply for.
That’s why I appreciated YOLO JAPAN — it offered many job opportunities specifically for foreigners, which gave me confidence to apply.”
Did you have any concerns before applying?
“Of course, I had concerns.
But once I started working, I realized there were many things I could learn along the way.
The first month was tough because there was so much to absorb, but my colleagues patiently taught me each step, and I gradually got used to the workflow.
Even now, there are moments of uncertainty, but I’ve learned to believe that if I keep trying, I can do it.
Having people around me who support and guide me makes a huge difference.”
What are your current responsibilities and how do you feel about your work?
“I’m currently in charge of on-site inspections, taking measurements, creating drawings and documents, and assisting with cost estimates.
At first, I didn’t know where to begin, but over time I started to understand how everything connects.
My supervisors and senior colleagues are always willing to explain things carefully, and every time I learn something new, I feel a sense of accomplishment.”
What are your goals and future career plans?
“I want to use what I studied in architecture to work on projects that connect construction with tourism and hospitality.
I’m currently studying for Japanese language and construction-related certifications to improve my skills step by step.
My senior colleagues often tell me, ‘It’s okay to fail — just keep trying,’ and that encouragement motivates me to move forward.”
Do you have a message for foreigners who are unsure about starting a new career?
“Every job feels difficult at first.
But you’ll never know what you can do unless you try.
I was anxious too, but with help from those around me, I gradually adapted and realized, ‘I can do this.’
It’s okay to make mistakes — what matters most is to keep going and never give up.”
